A PROGRAM OF THE MEDC
THE MAIN STREET DIFFERENCE
Michigan Main Street has a proven track record of generating robust economic impacts within local communities.
Michigan Main Street assists communities across the state working to revitalize and preserve their traditional commercial district. We provide technical assistance to local communities implementing the Main Street Four-Point Approach®, a community-driven, comprehensive strategy encouraging economic development through historic preservation in ways appropriate for the modern marketplace.
The program aims to create communities distinguished by economically vital and vibrant commercial districts and downtowns, thereby developing attractive places that make the state economically stronger and culturally diverse.
Michigan has successfully developed a solid revitalization program and stands as an example for other programs across the country. We’re very proud of this partnership and of the opportunities to work together to help build the quality of life, economic vitality, and strong sense of place in communities throughout the state. Through Main Street, building and business owners are working with each other and with public partners to strengthen their local economic base while preserving the community’s authentic fabric and enhancing its distinctive sense of place. And through Main Street, residents, organizations, and corporations in communities of all sizes are helping position their downtowns once again as centers of community activity and promoting the community’s positive identity. This is the value of Main Street as a community-driven, preservation-based, economic development approach to successful revitalization efforts.
